TLN Roundtable: Readers Choice

For today’s roundtable, we shifted the focus from our humble Slack channel to the voices on Twitter dot Com. Specifically, we wanted to know what you all felt most excited about heading into this season. Here were some of our favourite responses.

Hey, we finally got Brady into a roundtable! Took an unorthodox method, but he’s here. He’s got a point, too; we can dissect things in their present rather than reaching into the past in hopes of understanding the future, which is fun.

I mentioned this in my Reddit AMA today – the Leafs have at least four players who could conceivably compete for the Calder Trophy this year. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if they all were lights out, but nobody won because they split the Toronto-area vote?

Always a treat seeing somebody fight Adam’s snark with more snark.

This is going to be so fun. I can’t wait till he runs Hampus Lindholm off of the team because he doesn’t block enough shots.

Perhaps the best-sounding answer of them all, even if it just feels a little weird to think about.

What’s your reason for excitement?

  • Gary Empey

Honestly I’m most excited to see the opening night roster!

Will Marner be joining Matthews and Nylander on the Leafs?

Who of names like Connor Brown, Rychel, Soshnikov, and Leivo be there as well.

Do Kapanen and Leipsic somehow surprise in camp and beat out the likes of Greening and Michalek? Where is Lupul?

That’s a lot of rookies and questions at forward.

Do we keep 8 Defensemen, I can’t see it smart to keep a Hunwick to put Carrick or Corrado on waivers.

  • @TLNdc, First time able to cheer in 2 years? That is not long suffering unless you are 3-6 years of age. The Leafs have not had a real competitive team for at least 20 years and I was 25 years old the last time they won the cup.

  • Stan Smith

I’m just excited to see hockey again. LOL

Two comments though. First, the media should not be the ones to vote for things like the Calder, Norris etc.

Second, in regards to the Carlyle/Lindholm comment, you mean like he ran Rielly out of town for not blocking shots?

  • Stan Smith

Wow I feel like a kid compared to old hockey fan. But it is indeed true that once the salary cap kicked in, the leaf management with their big feet on the desk and the cigar smoke filling the room had to actually have a plan other than signing another three or four free agents every year.
Fortunately the fans finally said enough is enough as the three amigos of Larry, Ted and Bell took a financial bath in the second half of the 2014/2015 season.

To stop the massive bleeding of revenue ownership came to the brilliant conclusion that hiring previous winners and improving your scouting staff would be a logical move to make. I mean who would have thought that a leaf ownership going back to the crazy days of Ballard would actually attempt to have a proper and correct blue print plan.

All of us are indeed looking forward to the up coming season as it appears the summer version of the 18 wheeler, a.k.a. the Jays is going off the cliff but heh when you got over 3 million fans who cares.

I think we have to realise that a rebuild takes time. Yes there are several bright prospects that the leafs have drafted. But these youngsters will need time as will the whole team to develop into a cohesive winning unit.

Their cousins the Raptors have watched DeMar DeRozan continually improve his game to the point after 7 years he is one of the better offensive threats in the N.B.A.

Let us indeed be realistic here and enjoy the wins and accept the mistakes that young prospects will unfortunately make.

I feel if you take that attitude going into the up coming season you will enjoy the new improved leafs who still have a number of base camps to climb to reach the top of Mount Everest, a.k.a. winning the Stanley Cup. Trust me the old hockey fan, Gary and myself have had the patience of Job waiting for that cup to come back to the big smoke. As I’ve stated WHAT’S 50 YEARS.
