LGD: Catfight

Once again, it’s everyone favourite battle of the basement-dwelling youth versus the veteran-led playoff crew. The Toronto Maple Leafs are in Sunrise to take on the Florida Panthers for the last time this season; let’s take a look at what’s ahead.

The Leafs

Zach Hyman will play his first game in Florida since being traded from the team that drafted him in the summer. Seeing as the bulk of the people in the crowd will either be Leafs fans or people who have flocked to the team as a result of their playoff push, I doubt anybody will actually care to give him any hard feelings. Beyond that, the lineup seems pretty business as usual.

Speaking of the Hyman trade, Greg McKegg still doesn’t have an NHL point. We’re now at the sixteen game mark in his career and he’s going to turn 24 before the draft.

Expect a hat trick tonight.

Starting Goaltenders

Since Garret Sparks played out last night’s 3-0 loss to the Lightning, Jonathan Bernier will start tonight. It’s been a heck of a month for the oft-maligned starter; he’s been a 0.937 in seven appearances in March, which is quite respectable.

Roberto Luongo is, unsurprisingly, in net for the Panthers. He’s been brilliant against the Leafs this year, but then again, he’s been brilliant against everyone. In 58 games, Luongo has a 0.922 save percentage. It’s amazing what he’s done in his first 125 or so games since returning to the team where he made his name; even in his mid 30’s, he’s still one of the best in the world.

What To Look Out For

  • A billion “Jagr is old and has had a long career and the Leafs rookies are young and have not” jokes
  • The younger half of Panthers management groaning loudly every time they plug a Leafs rookie’s name into the PCS machine
  • Jonathan Bernier letting in a soft goal directly because he’s nervous about possibly spitting on somebody again
  • Screw it, Greg McKegg is breaking Sittler’s record tonight
Puck drop is at 7:30 PM.
