LGD: The Typhoid Ducks of Anaheim

*Corey Perry emerges from a Peterborough dumpster*

“Nothing tastes as good as the garbage you eat at home.”

Hopefully all the Leafs have their vaccinations up to date because they are getting a visit from the Ducks tonight. And while that may leave us wishing the Leafs wear hazmat suits for tonight’s game, the fact that the Ducks are a pretty good team and should be capable of handing the Leafs a loss is probably a good thing. This winning record thing has been fun for a while, but Toronto is dangerously close to improving in the standings.

Oh look, Tyler Bozak is back. That’s exciting…

Okay, it really isn’t but it’s a thing that’s happening and the reason why Freddie Gauthier is back with the Marlies. The rest of the cast is still the same, and William Nylander is still incredibly good.

The Ducks have leveled off recently after their surge from awfulness. They are 5-4-1 over the last 10, so luckily they won’t be above beating the Leafs senseless to maintain home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs.

  • William Nylander. He’s all we’ve got left. Watch him. Love him. Think about how better days are coming.
  • Seriously, that was it, beyond that there are plenty of other great NHL games to check out tonight.
    • Pens vs. Devils
    • Bruins vs. Panthers
    • Flyers vs. Avs
    • Or just take a well earned break from watching hockey so you’re prepared for the marathon which is the playoff season.
  • I guess it will be interesting to see how many points Korbinian Holzer can put up tonight.
  • Just a reminder to everyone that TLN doesn’t tolerate hateful, racist, homophobic or sexist language in the comments section. Your comment will be deleted and we won’t hesitate to ban your account or IP either.

Please people, don’t make me have to write this out again. You’re all better than that.

  • Nice to see Holzer and Santorelli back. Let’s hope they both score, a bunch, in a 4-3 Ducks win.

These last 4 wins come at the worst time.

The 40 losses for the Oilers (6 more games to go) would normally be enough for a management (and players) house cleaning.

But wise Oilers ownership is stuck with Chiarelli and McLellan for at least a few more years, which means even after adding Matthews in June, they’ll have a crack at another first overall pick in 2017.

If he wants to put him against some tough threats then he has no choice but to go with plan B. Put him up against the Getzlaf line. No offense to Rickard Rakell, but probably not as much of a challenge as Babcock was hoping to put Nylander against.

10 games left in the Leafs season..

We can’t afford to win.. LOL!

    Game pump, anyway…

Bozak scored… I can think of one or two people who are going to be just insufferable in the post-game thread.

On the other hand; WOO! Go Leafs!

EDIT: And now Kadri scored so… that accounts for everybody else…

    • I don’t know why people rail against Bozak so much. He’s always outperformed, he’s been a positive contributor. It’s not his fault he’s not Crosby or Getzlaf. He never proported to be. He was just a hard working kid no one wanted whose taken advantage of the opportunities provided.

He’s consistently been top 50 among centers in pts per game in the league with or without Kessel.

Cut him some slack people! And his 4 million salary isn’t onerous considering the league average is 3.

Is he a number 1 center? No but that’s not his fault! Is he a solid reliable number 3 absolutely!!!!!!

It clearly comes from his usage and contract. And I don’t believe it is fair. At least, not anymore.

I think the major issue was that he was put in a position that blocked Nazem Kadri from the top line role. Taking not just top line minutes with the only top line talent on his wing, but top line PP time, too.

And, if we’re being honest, he didn’t really produce enough to warrant it. Never had a 50 point season despite all the advantages given him.

But, times have changed. Even though minds have yet to move as quickly (shown both by the comments on Bozak AND Kadri).

Babcock has put them in their proper roles (I like Bozak with Leivo and Brown on the 3rd line) and I think, assuming both survive the off-season, we’ll see the hate on both ends subside as they play next season.

        At least, I think.
