Rob Madore gets shutout in Jeremy Morin’s Marlies Debut

The World Juniors are over, but the Toronto Marlies’ teenage wunderkinds still aren’t around. Kasperi Kapanen is presumably busy being a national hero while William Nylander is back in Toronto getting rest and evaluation from team doctors as they find a way to best address his upper-body injury.

Thankfully for the team, there are a ton of roster players willing to keep those spots for another game or two, including a new face. Jeremy Morin, acquired a few days prior from the Chicago Blackhawks, made his debut for the team and found his way onto the scoresheet of a 3-0 victory.

Morin’s debut point came on Josh Leivo’s late-second ice breaker. Technically, it was a secondary assist; he merely sent the puck over to TJ Brennan, who gave Leivo the perfect pass he needed to rocket a one-timer past Eric Comrie. Even still, it was a positive start for the new guy, who was immediately trusted to play on the powerplay and picked up four shots on goal.

Despite the two teams combining for eight more powerplays throughout the game, things were quite quiet throughout; thanks to spectacular performances by both Comrie and Marlies goaltender Rob Madore. Madore was vital in keeping Toronto in the game during the first period, as they were outshot 13-5 in the opening twenty, but went on a 21-13 run in the back forty. With two minutes to go, Stuart Percy took this ridiculous shot to give the team some insurance.

Ryan Rupert followed it up with an empty-netter that crossed the full length of the ice. A few other players had good showings as well; Brendan Leipsic equalled Morin’s four shots on goal, and Nikita Soshnikov was a strong two-way presence throughout.

With the win, Toronto moves to 28-7-2 (0.784) on the season, further asserting their dominance as the AHL’s best team. Additionally, they moved to 5-0 against the Moose this season, which they could turn into 6-0 tomorrow night at the MTS Centre. The puck drops at 8 PM.

Gotta love these Teenage Marlies Ninja Turtles!!!
How much better will they be with Nylander, Kapanen, Brown? Those three are the teams best players up front and would be the number one line on every other AHL team.
Arcobello is probably up with the big team for good. I doubt my boy Froese will clear waivers once he is healthy so they keep him on the big team?
(nobody remembers me raving about him last year with Orlando and then the Marlies, it’s in the comments somewhere,.I mentioned that his potential was definitely NHL caliber)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hear the chirping on a regular basis that he is not even a flat tire on the Leafs, yada, yada, yada… yet Babcock, who seems to have a slight idea what he is doing, loves the kid…I think he has a bright future on the Leafs.

I keep reading that he is barely a 4th liner with your tongue in your cheek, or thumb up your a$$3s but Dubas has stipulated that management will no longer label players so, if he can find his scoring touch in the NHL and hit the twine 8-10 times a year, he could climb up the lineup and be a good contributor with an inexpensive cap hit.

No more jamming a square peg in a round Holl, you just gotta Löov and Madore these kids Morin more.

Everyone needs to get down to Ricoh and watch this team, you are seeing the Leafs before they hatch… $25 for seats on the glass, best value in town.

I think Froese is on a two-way contract so he would be able to be sent down to the Marlies without going through waivers, but I like his game too. Wins defensive zone faceoffs, plays hard, and doesn’t have total stone hands.

You are so right about getting down to Ricoh and watch the Marlies. Those $25 seats right on the glass are amazing. One feels like they are in the middle of the game. How is the parking down there?
Marlie playoff time? It is going to get real crazy at the Ricoh.

Gotta love a 3-0 victory, without Kapanen and Nylander back, yet..! Congrats to Madore.. I thought they would have played, since Marner and Dermott were back with the Knights, last night.. Hope William is healed fast..!
