LGD – Leafs vs. Wings: The Real HockeyTown

The Leafs enter the second half of a back-to-back this evening with a road game in Detroit, and since their last matchup, the Wings have basically ripped the conference to shreds.

The Wings come into this game having won 8 of their last 10, one of those two losses being at the hands of these Leafs on November 22nd.

Detroit now shares top spot in the conference with the Penguins with 39 points, six up on Toronto. The Leafs will try to keep their own little win-streak going and take a step towards breaking into that group of Montreal, Tampa, and Detroit atop the Atlantic. Currently the gap after Montreal is five points, but the Leafs hold three games in hand.

Stuart Percy was recalled from the Marlies just a few hours ago, but as of now there’s no confirmation that he will replace anyone in the lineup for tonight’s game.

It’s obvious that the Wings present a bit of a tough task with a fully healthy lineup, as Datsyuk and Weiss are now in after missing time this season. The Leafs will certainly have their hands full, especially on the road as a tired team.

Starting goalies

Howard (.917 sv%) is confirmed to start for the Wings, and Reimer appears to be the guy for the Leafs as Bernier got the win last night.

What to look for

  • The beauty of a Nazem Kadri pass.
  • All the players’ love for the game.
  • Heart, soul, and a desire to win on the world’s biggest stage: Joe Louis Arena.
  • Hockey, and lots of it, in HockeyTown.

The back to back is a preview of what the leafs will be facing very soon. Yep the boys are travelling down that long river of a schedule and they can hear the roaring rapids already as from December 18th to Valentines day, the buds will play 19 out of 27 games on the road.

This will be the defining stretch as to whether the leafs will be able for the first time in 7 years obtain more than 85 points in one season. There is no doubt that the leaf 18 wheeler will indeed be on the icy mountain road for 7 long, long weeks. One stretch sees them play 8 out of 9 on the road.

Always remember that it is M.L.S.E. who forces your beloved team to have this type of ludicrous schedule which is basically a playoff breaker. After all M.L.S.E. is strictly interested in winning in Steve Forbes magazine. Yesiree as long as the Air Canada center is filled 365 days a year, every thing is coming up roses for the owners. Nothing like getting into the ring for a boxing match with one arm tied behind your back.

Now you won’t have any of the lap poodle writers in here or in much of the big smoke media pointing out that the leafs are screwed by their schedule. No siree as most of the peasant media either works for Bell or Rogers and you DON’T BITE THE HAND THAT IS FEEDING YOU.

Was that sarcasm, What’s47years? I hope that was sarcasm.

Anyways, this has all the potential to be a very close, entertaining game. Of course, I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see the Leafs blown out, either? Regardless, good luck boys!
